Maadhav Narson Sarawadekar
This foundation has been formed in the memories of Maadhav Narson Sarawadekar. All his friends and family members including us, his children used to call him Bhau. He was born in a farmers family in Sarawade, a tiny village in Kolhapur District, hence Sarawadekar. After spending some years at Sarawade and Mangewadi, he shifted to Kolhapur, and stayed there for his lifetime.
His Legacy
Bhau was very generous, helped each and every person who came to his home in Kolhapur. His was a family of 10, but the meals were always prepared for at least 15-16 people. Bhau used to help poor students from nearby villages who came to Kolhapur for school and college education. He also helped many others like someone from the native place who had come to visit the relative, or for the delivery of the daughter, or someone who does not have a place to stay and is looking for a job in Kolhapur. He was not a very rich person by money, but helping others was his core belief. He continued helping others throughout his life. After his death, some of his properties were sold, and all the children received the money.
Varsha Vaidya, his daughter and founder of Sarawadekar Foundation decided to continue the legacy of her late father and donated her share to the foundation. Gratitude and giving back are her core beliefs. As an individual, she has helped many students by paying their fees and now she is doing it via Sarawadekar Foundation.
Sarawadekar Foundation(Maadhav Narson Sarawadekar Foundation) is a section 8 non profit registered with MCA in May 2021.

Our Thematic Areas

Education
We have been helping students, especially girls from deprived backgrounds for their studies and supporting them with tuition fees, hostel fees, mess charges and providing them with the necessary study materials and stationery. We also conduct awareness and training sessions for the girls on health, nutrition, life skills and skill development

Women Empowerment
We support women to become micro-entrepreneurs and teach them the essential skills that will help them earn money. Women who are earning, often spend the money on their children and her family, helping in providing a good lifestyle to them.

Environment
While climate change and the consequences have become the most discussed topic, most people do not know their role in the overall picture. We make people aware about the concept and their role in mitigating the climate change effects. We provide support to SHGs, start ups and other NGOs who are upcycling clothes, managing the domestic waste and recycling plastic.
